Sky Sports confirm our worst fears…Mike Ashley opts for Steve Bruce

Sky Sports have confirmed in the last few moments that Steve Bruce is now Mike Ashley’s ‘no.1 target’ to replace Rafa Benitez, with the club expected to now make an official approach.

This comes from Sky’s north-east reporter Keith Downie, who claims that Bruce and Sheffield Wednesday are now ‘braced’ for an ‘official approach’ once he returns from their training camp in Portugal today.

Bruce himself said it was ‘news to me’ when asked about being the bookies favourite last night, however it’s been widely reported that he’d jump at the chance to take the job on Tyneside if Newcastle came calling.

This has also been backed up by the Sun’s David Coverdale, who claims that compensation shouldn’t be a problem – with him expected to cost £1m.

Bruce may be a decent bloke, but he is not fit to take over at Newcastle United – especially when he’d be coming in to replace world class manager and elite level coach Rafa Benitez.

Just look at his CV:

  • Sheffield United: Resigned
  • Huddersfield Town: Sacked
  • Wigan Athletic: Resigned
  • Crystal Palace: Resigned
  • Birmingham City: Resigned
  • Wigan Athletic: Resigned
  • Sunderland: Sacked
  • Hull City: Resigned
  • Aston Villa: Sacked
  • Sheffield Wednesday: Current job

What a complete and utter train-wreck this summer is turning out to be.

  1. And how many clicks has this bulls**t generated? Such a shame that this site has sunk to the level of regurgitating make believe stories from the press. What a joke..

  2. How many times do I hear elite level, world class coach etc about Rafa.

Yes he is a good manager, but he did the bare minimum expected for us, he kept us in the PL, quite a few of our managers have achieved that.

But it was at a cost, our squad is not as dreadful as Rafa made out, yet he always had an excuse.

We were dire to watch under Rafa against everyone because of his tactics, that’s why we are usually last game on MOTD ?

Rafa is gone let’s support who ever is put in place, god he will have a hard enough time with Ashley, without us fans being on his back because they are not a big enough name!!!!
