Sky Sports – Steve Bruce arrives back at Sheffield Wednesday – Deal yet to be agreed

Sky Sports have confirmed this morning that Steve Bruce has arrived back at Sheffield Wednesday’s training ground this morning, with a compensation deal yet to be agreed with Newcastle United.

The deal had been described as ‘imminent’, with several outlets stating that he was expected to be unveiled as the new Newcastle United manager before the weekend, however it looks like there’s work to be done yet.

So, it seems the two clubs are yet to agree the compensation fee required to take Bruce from Hillsborough to St James’ Park – and that doesn’t surprise me given it was reported yesterday that he’d cost ‘over £5m’.

In fairness, Bruce turning up for work in Sheffield is to be expected until he signs on the dotted line at Newcastle, but these claims this morning do suggest that a deal may not be as close as some were suggesting yesterday.

What’s more, the BBC’s Adam Oxley is even claiming there hasn’t even been a ‘formal approach’ from Newcastle!

Time will tell. I’m sure many are hoping it falls through, with Bruce seen as a totally uninspiring option, but I dread to think who our next target would be after moves for both him and Allardyce over the past week!

  1. Serious doubts on Bruce taking over, it was reported that he flew in last night for talks etc.

    Blah blah blah.

No Takeover, No Bruce and no change, managerless and hopeless. 😮

  2. If Bruce does decide to go he will be leaving a better set of fans than he would be going to (we have had to endure much more adversity than the Toon army, and they only sing when they are winning and cry out when it goes wrong, which is about all the tie) plus someone who want’s to control everything whilst the Owls boss is just about the easiest guy to get along with and would sanction any deal when we’re in your place next year!
    Better the devil you kow!
