NUFC agree to sign free agent – Deal set to go through in next 48 hours – Report

According to an exclusive from Football Insider’s Peter O’Rourke, Newcastle are all set to sign former Chelsea midfielder Kyle Scott.

They claim that the 21-year-old will complete a move to St James’ Park in the next ’48 hours’, with him expected to complete his medical over the weekend.

After failing to agree a new deal at Chelsea, the Sun actually revealed back in June that he would complete a move to Newcastle ‘next month’, so news of his seemingly imminent arrival does make sense.

Scott had been on the books at Stamford Bridge since the age of 10, but managed to make just one appearance for their senior side, coming on from the bench in their FA Cup clash with Hull last year.

Here’s a snippet from Peter O’Rourke’s exclusive for Football Insider:

Midfielder Kyle Scott is set to undergo a Newcastle United medical and complete a move to the club in the next 48 hours, Football Insider can reveal.

A Newcastle source has told Football Insider that Scott, 21, is poised to sign a three-year contract after accepting the club’s offer to join on a free transfer.

The rising star, who can operate in central, defensive or attacking midfield roles, is available after his contract at Chelsea expired at the end of last month.

Intriguingly, Newcastle have opted to push through the signing even though ex-manager Rafael Benitez had laid the groundwork for recruiting him before his exit last month.

The identity of the new Magpies manager, believed to be Steve Bruce, will not have a bearing on the deal being completed in the coming days.

Newcastle are convinced Scott has the potential to make a big impact at the club after failing to break into Chelsea’s star-studded first team.

The last line suggests he could be ‘one to watch’ over the coming season, although it sums up our summer so far that we’re pinning our hopes on a 21-year-old who’s only made one senior appearance in English football!

Scott is a USA Under-20 international and recently had a spell out on loan in Holland with Telstar last season.
