No takeover, Steve Bruce & a Championship squad – A Mike Ashley recipe for relegation

Is there anyone who thinks Steve Bruce is a good appointment? Is there anyone who believes the club will be sold to a new owner? and…Is there anyone who honestly believes the current crop can survive another season in the Premier League in these circumstances?

‘Geordies until we die’, without a doubt, but it seriously is time to stop our investment in a doomed business and Mike Ashley of all people must understand that.

As a businessman he weighs up the investment potential and as season ticket holders and match day attenders, we also must weigh up the potential before investing.

The difference is of course, we decide with our heart and Mr Ashley’s calculated decisions are made with the head, with only one thing in mind – money.

Everything we read, because let’s face it, there has never been dialogue from the club, suggests the future is looking bleak.

The press are currently speculating on Mr Ashley’s other investments – if there is one investment that will suffer it’s the one at St James Park – and a takeover seems to have well and truly stalled, with no new owners likely to arrive so late in the summer.

Then to Steve Bruce, someone with Premier League experience, but, in reality, a Championship manager who has done very little with Sheffield Wednesday or Aston Villa during his last two stints in the second tier.

And then to our squad. With Perez and Rondon gone (over 50% of our goals last season) and several players deemed ‘not good enough’ by Rafa back in the fold, we are looking more and more like a Championship side by the day.

He was a fool to lose Rafa, but to replace him with Steve Bruce is just asking for trouble – both on and off the pitch.

As a result, I’m seriously trying to find some optimism, but am struggling to find a glimmer.

My 90 years old father, bleeds ‘black and white’. A Toon win transforms his week and he believes , no he expects us to win every game. Where am I going wrong?

I almost want Newcastle to win to see the immense pleasure on his face, but really do fear for what this season holds.

  1. Schar is looking to jump ship. I bet when the team return home after being demoralised in Asia, there will be a few more looking for a more ambitious club that is not fighting relegation every year.
