Sheffield Wednesday ‘yet to accept’ NUFC’s offer – despite agreeing £4m Bruce deal – Reporter

According to the Sun’s Alan Nixon, Newcastle have agreed a deal to bring Steve Bruce to St James’ Park, but Sheffield Wednesday are yet to accept our offer for his two assistants Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence.

This comes after Nixon’s big ‘exclusive’ stated yesterday that we’d now paid the £4m compensation fee for Bruce, however it seems we’re yet to agree a deal that would see his two right-hand men join him at St James’ Park.

As a result, it seems this underwhelming appointment is being dragged out even further – something we could REALLY do without given the transfer window is due to shut in just over 3 weeks time!

Here’s what the Sun reporter has had to say in a Tuesday morning update, claiming Owls chief Dejphon Chansiri is yet to accept our offer for both Bruce AND his backroom team:

In addition, the Sheffield Star’s Alex Miller has also claimed that Bruce’s move to Newcastle is “very close to being closed”, but it remains to be seen whether a deal for his two trusted assistant is any closer to being agreed.

Bruce is an unforgivable replacement for Rafa Benitez as far as I’m concerned, however it’s time we got this seemingly imminent appointment one done and dusted so we can now focus on transfers.

With the window closing three weeks on Thursday and our squad in MAJOR need of investment, both Bruce, Charnley and Ashley best get their skates on if they are serious about keeping this club in the Premier League ahead of the coming season.

  1. How low can we sink? The embarrassing situation of not being able to agree compensation for a second rate manager’s assistants.

  2. Whoever comes in as manager / head coach has no say in transfers so what’s the delay. Ashley waiting for the last minute of the window then saying that due to the protracted negotiations between Sheffield Wednesday we could not get out targets over the line. It’s time the journalists local and national cottoned on to Ashley and hammered home what is actually happening at our club.
