According to 90min.com, Steve Bruce wants to make a move for Everton duo Yannick Bolasie and James McCarthy once he’s been confirmed as Newcastle’s new manager.
Although signings will be essential once he’s appointed, it’s fair to say we should take this one with a pinch of salt for a whole host of reasons.
Not only is the source reporting it pretty dubious, it’s been suggested that Steve Bruce will have very little say on transfers, with head of recruitment Steve Nickson now set to take up a Graham Carr style role at the club and put names forward to Bruce.
That aside, the main reason moves for Bolasie and McCarthy seem so unlikely is down to their age, with neither fitting into Mike Ashley’s transfer blue print.
Bolasie has just turned 30 and Mccarthy is 29 later this year, not forgetting the pair have been very injury prone over the past few seasons.
The pair are said to be players Bruce wanted to sign during his time at Aston Villa (Bolasie arrived at Villa just after he was sacked), but I see us going for young talents with sell on value instead – even if the Everton duo may be available on the cheap.
