Good news as NUFC star commits his future to the club – “I won’t be leaving”

Jonjo Shelvey has committed himself to the club in a brilliant interview about his Newcastle United future.

The midfielder had looked likely to leave this summer at one stage, with him struggling for game time last season and having several niggling injury issues, however he’s now issued another strong statement on his future plans.

Here’s what he’s had to say during his chat with the Shields Gazette at our pre-season training camp in China:

“I won’t be leaving this club.

“I don’t know who wants me to leave or stay but as far as I am concerned I am a Newcastle United player.

“I’ve not looked to go anywhere. The past season I’ve never downed tools. I’ve always carried on doing the right things, and that’s what I’ll continue to do. At the end of the day, this club pays your wages. You respect them for that. The fans pay your wages.

“I am here and love the North-East. It is a brilliant place to live & my kids & wife are settled.

“I am not looking to go anywhere.

Reassuring words from Shelvey and some much needed good news for us NUFC fans – even if Steve Bruce’s appointment has been met with real negativity (and rightly so!).

Many feared there’d be a mass exodus after Benitez’s exit and, although both Perez and Rondon have gone, it’s positive to hear one of our most talented players will be sticking around this summer.

He’s had a few fitness issues over the last 12 months and looked a bit off the pace in our friendly earlier today, but if he can stay injury fee, knuckle down and find his top form, we have a quality player on our hands in Jonjo.
