Richard Keys exposed after shameless post spreads more lies about Bruce, Benitez & Ashley..

An obsessed Richard Keys has weighed in with an opinion no one asked for on the Newcastle United front once again.

We’d prefer to just ignore his existence and not give him the attention he probably craves, but there’s so many inaccuracies in his latest blog post it’s untrue.

Here’s what he’s had to say, with us interrupting a few parts of his laughable piece to expose some of the lies he shamelessly comes out with:

Now. Let’s get round to the original reason for breaking my summer holiday (bit obsessed, isn’t he..) despite my promise that I wouldn’t blog again until the season started – Steve Bruce. Good on you Brucey. It takes a ‘man’ to step into the chaos and abuse you’re now getting – simply for fulfilling a lifetimes ambition. After previously saying ‘no’ – he’s now got the job he grew up dreaming of. Just like Bobby Robson. Do you all remember when Bob took it – at a time when Newcastle were owned by another vilified owner – the late Freddy Shepherd? Remember him? Poor fella. He got pelters for doing his best at St James’ Park.

Bruce is the right man for the job now. He knows the club. He knows what the supporters want. They want to be entertained and have fun when they watch their team play. Oh for Keegan’s wonderful entertainers.

“I’m not suggesting that there aren’t issues at Newcastle. Of course there are – but back a man like Mike Ashley into a corner and you’re only making things worse. Benitez did that – and played poker with a poor hand. None of us wants to be beaten up Ashley constantly is. I’m equally sure he meant it a couple of years ago when he said he wasn’t going anywhere until Newcastle won something. Fingers crossed if you’re a Newcastle fan – Brucey might just make that happen!

‘Sell it’ Geordie fans scream. That club has been for sale for 5 years. The question is ‘why won’t it sell’? Is it because it’s toxic? I refer again to the late Freddy Shepherd. He couldn’t escape brutal criticism – even when he went deeply into personal debt to fund the club. Nor could Sir John Hall. And he gave the Geordies their club back – and Keegan. I ask you – what’s the ‘up’ side to owning Newcastle? I’m sorry – but it’s true.

He glorifies Bruce’s appointment like he’s a huge coup for the club, yet, in reality, his appointment is so lacking in imagination and ambition it’s difficult to know where to start.

Not only does Keys suggests Bruce is the perfect man for the job (despite him having the second worst win % of all managers involved in over 250 games), he also reckons his football could entertain us (despite the fact his Premier League teams have averaged 1.03 goals a game).

But it gets worse. He seems to suggest WE are part of the reason Mike Ashley hasn’t sold the club, questioning whether we’ve contributed to the ‘toxic’ situation at St James’ Park and questioning just what is the upside of owning this club. Laughable.

It get’s worse..

‘Bruce is apparently a ‘dinosaur’. Funny that. We used to call a guy like him ‘experienced’. All his life he’s been working toward this. There have been highs and lows in his career.  On the upside – 4 promotions with bang ordinary teams. He gave Wigan their highest ever PL finish. He was the last man to finish in the top 10 with Sunderland, before being sacked because he couldn’t deny his heart really lay at St James’. He’s managed in a mad house at Hull. He laid the foundations for Villa to go up last season – and that’s in no way a slight on Dean Smith. Dean did a fantastic job to get it over the line. No, Bruce has a vast library of experiences to call on in a situation like this.

‘He was apparently little more than 11th choice for the job. Nonsense. That story came from China via a Spanish football ‘expert’. A British broadcaster ran with it – newspapers repeated it. Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. Sloppy lazy journalism. When I started in this line of work my first editor told me ‘check – check it again. And then check it again’. No-one could’ve checked that fairy tale.’

If Bruce had been working towards the Newcastle United job all of this life, why did he reject us twice in the past and why has he happily taken the Sunderland job since then? I think Bruce is a decent bloke who comes across well, but these are facts.

It’s also a fact that he’s suffered two relegations during his time in the top flight and has the following managerial record – making a mockery of Keys’ desperate attempt to glorify his appointment:

To make matters worse, Keys’ response to Sky Sports’ claim that Bruce was our ’11th choice’ is incredibly petty. He states ‘that story came from China via a Spanish football ‘expert’. Is he honestly trying to suggest Rafa Benitez’s camp tried to slander Bruce like this? Come on.

Keys then turned his attentions to Benitez – a man he seems to be obsessed with, but not in a good way – and here he gets his facts horribly wrong once again.

‘I’ve tweeted on the subject of Benitez. I’ve blogged. I’ve said he deserved great credit for staying and getting them back after relegation – but he did have the biggest budget in the Championship and being able to sign 18 players helped. 18 players for £102m. Fact Rafa. ‘

As this brilliant post below PROVES, his false claims about Rafa Benitez are anything but ‘fact’.

Chris Hughton did the same job on relatively buttons.Which brings me to Alan Shearer’s comments saying he told Bruce not to take it. Why? They spent most of the summer together. Alan knew how it was all unfolding. Why not back his mate publicly and get Geordies on his side? I know Alan has issues with Ashley. The owner was wrong to turn Shearer’s bar into the ‘No 9’ bar. Alan is a legend at St James’ – but he forgive Ashley for turfing him out after he took them down. I remember the time well. I remember my little mate Ray Wilkins telling me after Chelsea had played them – in Alan’s first game I think – ‘Keysie, he’ll suffocate them. It won’t work’. How right was he? I must say Alan’s strange choice of assistant didn’t help. Iain Dowie didn’t do him any favours – certainly not the night I sat with him having dinner in Newcastle and he told me ‘it’s not my team yet’. ‘Yet’? Ffs. I’ll never forget that. Not quite the No2 you want covering your backside eh?At the start of the following season Alan was in turmoil because he couldn’t nail the job. It was obviously a money issue. I called and said ‘Do it for nothing. You don’t need the money. Tell Ashley to pay you at the end of the season when you’ve got them up. You’ll cement your legendary status in concrete. He can’t turn an offer like that down’. Chris Hughton got the job. Come on Al. Give Brucey your public backing. At the end of the day – it’s Newcastle. It’s not Ashley. Ashley will eventually leave.

A dig at Alan Shearer’s admission that he told Bruce not to take the job. He fails to realise here that it was actually sound advice, and totally skips over the part of big Al’s piece where he wishes his ‘good friend’ the best of luck in the job.

There have been at least two bidders in the data room all summer – but still no resolution. Let’s hope for all our sakes there is soon, but if Newcastle fans want an example of bad owners look at Bolton. At Coventry. At Bury. At Blackpool. I could go on. Newcastle are a PL team. Of course they could go down – but I don’t believe they will. If Bruce has got a deal like his predecessors then his bonuses will click in if he finishes 10th or better. Is that why Rafa always tossed off the Cup competitions? Steve Bruce is a proud Geordie. Managing Newcastle won’t mean as much to anyone else working in the game. My message to him would be ‘Good luck – and now go and win something’. Brucey knows better than anyone that it’s time someone did that at St James’ Park.”

The bloke really hasn’t got a clue, being perhaps the most deluded, childish and ill-informed man in the media when it comes to all things NUFC.

I take your point and say as much in the first few lines, but I like to highlight the fact he gets his facts BADLY wrong. You know, since he stresses the importance of ‘fact checking’.

  3. Obese more like….Shepherd never pit any money in he left the club with a £120m debt which had been borrowed season after season from Barclays bank who allows all Premier League clubs a £20m season to season interest free loan as long as they stay in the Premier League, every 3 months Shepherd would pay himself £100k, Mr Keys do you think us Geordies are simpletons like our mackem neighbours ??

  5. @Thumper – stop talking complete shy@e.

Ashley’s ‘ loan’ amounted to £100 million after he took the club over but before he got us relegated.

That £100 million included the ground expansion mortgage he had to pay off as new owner (as per mortgage terms) and the club operating overdraft.

In teal terms he probably chucked in £25 mil. 12 years later though the club still owes him the mortgage amount which would have been paid off by 2016 under H&S.

His ‘loans’ are a smokescreen for milking the club and having morons like you think we should be grateful for and to him.

  6. I would rather have His beloved Coventry City owners than Mike Ashley.
That’s the way to hurt Richard keys, support Coventry city owners like he does to Cashley …He will soon come out of his shell.

And for his stupidity of fact checking, when Castle got relegated Newcastle made a profit on transfers after selling sissoko and wijnaldum. Rafa didn’t spend £102m has he added the transfers in and transfer out as one total? What a absolute ferret cheeks

  8. Maybe he’s right. Who else would take the job? He’s probably the best of a bad bunch. As for the are we part of the problem then the answer is YES. I HAVE BEEN SAYING FOR YEARS THAT ASHLEY KNOWS WE HATE HIM. He doesn’t need to sell the club and won’t because he gets too much out of it every year. It’s as simple as that. He gets over 100mill to himself every year because of his greed. That pays for all his other ****. Keys isn’t far off with what he’s saying in all honesty. You have just let the whole situation take over everything else. I gave up trying to second guess the fat ****. We will never win unless he drops down dead
