Newcastle back in for Allan Saint-Maximin – L’Equipe

According to L’Equipe, Newcastle United are set to go back in for Allan Saint-Maximin after OGC Nice agreed to reduce their asking price for the winger.

The French outlet claims that Patrick Vieira is open to selling the 22-year-old this summer and he’s a player we’ve been tipped to sign on several occasions over the past month.

Interestingly, Nice paper ‘Nice-Matin’ claimed that we were ‘close’ to agreeing personal terms with the winger in the final week of June.

A few days later, the Mirror’s north-east reporter Simon Bird claimed both he and Joelinton were on the club’s transfer shortlist following Rafa Benitez’s exit.

Links with a move for Saint-Maximin had gone quiet since then, however L’Equipe claimed last night that we are now set to reignite our interest in the Ligue 1 attacker after Nice lowered their demands:

Time will tell if there’s anything in this latest transfer rumour, but given his age (22), his high potential and the fact we MUST replace Ayoze Perez, it would make sense if we were pursuing someone like him.

Sky Sports claimed that Watford were keen to sign the winger last week, stating he was valued at £25m, however that price may have been reduced if L’Equipe’s new claims are true.

Crystal Palace have also been credited with interest, so it’s fair to say we may have some competition if we really are ‘back in’ for him in what remains of this summer’s transfer window.
