Journalist claims NUFC are now ‘in talks’ to sign Monaco star – West Ham also keen

According to RMC Sport reporter Mohamed Bouhafsi, Newcastle have opened discussions with AS Monaco over a potential deal for Djibril Sidibé.

The French journalist does claim that West Ham are also keen to sign the versatile full-back, however.

Here’s what he’s had to say on Twitter in the last few moments, stating that both ourselves and the Hammers have ‘started discussions’ over a deal for the 26-year-old:

“West Ham and Newcastle have started discussions with AS Monaco for Sidibe ! Other English clubs have asked AS Monaco for the French international! Monaco gave him a good exit.”

Considering we are in desperate need for new options at full-back, a move for Sidibe could make a lot of sense – especially when he is capable of playing down either flank.

It’s claimed Sidibe is available for £13.5m. That would be a VERY reasonable price for a versatile French international at a good age, however I can’t help but feel sceptical about his one if we’re up against West Ham – a club who have regularly outspent us over the past few windows.

  1. It’s a signing that makes sense. You’re talking Newcastle United here, under My Cashley. It won’t happen.
