NUFC plan to announce ‘second signing’ before Saturday’s game vs Preston – Report

According to the Chronicle, Newcastle are hoping to announce their second signing of the summer before Saturday’s pre-season friendly at Preston.

This comes after Joelinton’s arrival at St James’ Park, with the Brazilian becoming our first summer signing after completing a ‘club-record’ move from Hoffenheim.

His arrival is a welcome one in what has otherwise been a dismal summer on Tyneside, with it being absolutely essential that several other key signings are made between now and deadline day on August 8th.

On this subject, the Chronicle have had the following to say on the transfer front after Steve Bruce and Lee Charnley were spotted meeting at St James’ Park on Tuesday lunch time:

“Indeed Newcastle are understood to working on striking a second deal, which could even be confirmed before the club head to Preston for their third pre-season friendly of the summer.”

So, who could this be?

Ligue 1 winger Allan Saint-Maximin has been heavily linked, with French outlets suggesting he’s a player we’re keen on now Nice have lowered their askinng price.

Meanwhile, both Augsburg left-back Philip Max and Hull City attacker Jarrod Bowen were mentioned in a recent piece by the Chronicle as players we were tracking.

The latter seems a very realistic option given he’s young, English (sell on value!), has just come off the back of a stunning season in the Championship, has played under Bruce before (at Hull) and is reportedly available for around £10m.

There’s also been talk of interest in Brazilian forward ‘Marrony’ – the 20-year-old Vasco da Gama talent who Steve Nickson is said to be impressed by.

Time will tell, but with just over two weeks left to do some serious business, it’s time we got cracking.
