Newcastle set to receive £5m bid from Crystal Palace – Report

According to the Sun’s Mike McGrath, Crystal Palace are preparing a £5m move for Newcastle United centre-back Ciaran Clark.

A potential season-long loan is also mooted, however the story states that they believe a bid of around £5m would be enough to bring the Irish international to Selhurst Park.

Clark, 29, has featured heavily over our first three games of pre-season so far, however it would not surprise me to see him move on this summer, with him likely to be our fifth choice centre-back when Lascelles, Lejeune, Schar and Fernandez are all fit – not to mention the fact Paul Dummett would probably get the nod over Clark in a three-man defence.

The Sun state that Hodgson wants to bring in competition for Mamadou Sakho and James Tomkins and has identified Clark as a target due to his Premier League experience.

I’m sure the powers that be would be delighted to receive £5m for Clark – who is now approaching his 30’s – however he may be seen as a valuable squad player by Bruce if we are to continue playing with three centre-backs.

  1. I’d sell without a doubt , not only do we have 4 cb’s ahead of him aswell as dummet who can play ahead of him but we also have Lewis Cass and kelland Watts who will be trying to get a few games . If we can get 6-7 mil it’d be a no brainer
