Freddie Woodman signs new contract at NUFC & seals loan move to Swansea

Newcastle stopper Freddie Woodman has completed a loan move to Swansea, also signing a one-year extension at St James’ Park – Full story here.

He will now spend the 2019/20 season gaining some much needed game time in the Championship, with his new extension also meaning his contract on Tyneside now runs up until the summer of 2021.

This news also suggests to me that Martin Dubravka is going absolutely nowhere this summer, with there being no chance of cashing in on the Slovakian when Karl Darlow is the only other fit senior goalkeeper left at the club following Woodman’s exit.

Woodman has featured in three of our four pre-season friendlies this summer, however he’s been in desperate need of first-team football after playing just three times for our senior side across the 2018/19 campaign.

His contract was due to expire next summer, but extending that and allowing him to finally complete a much needed loan move to a very decent Championship side should go a long way towards keeping him happy and fending off reported interest from the likes of Arsenal and Celtic.
