The NUFC skipper has already spoken highly of Joelinton in an interview last week following his big money move from Hoffenheim, however he’s been raving about the 22-year-old once again after coming up against him on the training pitch.
Here’s he had to say about the 6ft 1′ striker, praising his all round play, his pace, power, fitness levels, footwork and finishing – suggesting he’s got everything needed to be a top striker:
“His all-round frontman play is really good. I’ve played against him in training a few times, and he’s a real handful. He’s a big boy, he’s fast, he’s fit, he’s got great feet and he can finish. That’s everything you want from a striker and more. I think it’s a great bit of business. I’m really pleased for him.”
Lascelles is known for saying it how it is and giving pretty honest and up front interviews, so this is VERY promising to hear.
The captain then talked about a few others who’ve impressed him in our last few pre-season games, naming Shelvey and Almiron as two who are ‘causing problems’ for opposition sides.”
“We’re getting Jonjo, in that holding role, on the ball with the wide wing-backs getting in behind,”
“Miguel and Jo are causing problems up front.”
With Saint-Maximin, Almiron and Joelinton’s pace in mind, balls in behind and creativity from deep from the likes of Shelvey and Schar could be a lethal weapon this season.
Let’s hope we see more of the same ahead of our final pre-seaosn friendly of the summer against St-Etienne today!
