NUFC star shocks fans in bizarre talkSPORT interview – How much has Ashley paid him to say this?

Well, today has seen Matt Ritchie become the latest person to try and defend Mike Ashley on talkSPORT; a show that feels like the retirement home for the terminally clueless.

Firstly, let me say I really like Matt Ritchie.

He’s been a vital player for us over the last three years, on and off the pitch and obviously slagging off their employer off isn’t a wise move for anyone.

Before I go on, here’s what he’s actually said today, stating that he ‘doesn’t understand’ the current negativity towards the NUFC owner:

I understand some of the sentiments behind what he’s saying, he wants the fans to get behind the team. However one sentence stands out……. “I don’t understand the unrest”…..absolutely mind boggling stuff from a player who I really thought was a little wiser to the whole situation.

He then talks about everyone pulling together being an important part of the success he had at Bournemouth. I honestly don’t think you can get two owners/chairman who are further apart than Mike Ashley and Lee Charnley, and Maxim Demin and Jeff Mostyn at Bournemouth. Certainly when it comes to extracting the last drop financial resources they possibility can to push the club forward, and how much they do for the community and town of Bournemouth also.

And why Talksport? A media outlet full of “experts” who simply don’t get it. Often portraying us as high maintenance fans and Ashley as the victim in all this.

I hope this doesn’t stain Ritchie’s legacy and favour with Newcastle fans, and once again he’ll be important this season, but it’s very ignorant and ill advised.

  1. Matt Ritchie has not let himself down, he spoke as things. These days getting hold of players you want, is massively competetive. It is the so called fans who need to get behind the team. As regards Ashley you just dont buy his stuff thats what will hurt him most, if thats what you want. I agree with Ritchy that the point is, what is done is done. Give the players a chance, don’t penalise them because of Ashley.

  2. It’s difficult to tell coz it’s an audio piece – but he didn’t sound like he was talking with a gun to his head.

Maybe that’s just what he thinks, and I have to be honest, I agree with him – oh my god, that makes me an Ashley supporter ?. No it doesn’t, coz I think he’s let the club down in many other ways.

All of our players seem to have handled this summer very professionally and just got on with it. They deserve praise, not stupid accusations like this thrown at them.

  3. So just out of interest , who would have to come out and say something positive about Ashley before you would actually believe it?

I appreciate you’ve never met him, or even spoken to him, and all these people who do know him are saying he’s not that bad, but all that aside, would you ever listen to somebody who ACTUALLY KNOWS THE MAN?

  5. Ritchie should concentrate on what he is being paid for, to kick a ball. These very well paid players are living in another world and he should read a bit more and do his research before spouting garbage. We are struggling to compete with the bottom 6 ffs!! We have been starved of investment for years and now this turd, Ashley, buys a couple of untested players to put in the shop window and the “fans” lap it up and carry on attending SDFC to boo, jeer and leave early. Enjoy your next 12 years of struggle.
