As revealed by Sky Sports this morning, Jacob Murphy is now on his way to Sheffield Wednesday for a medical after agreeing a season-long loan deal with the club.
Elsewhere, Sky’s north-east reporter Keith Downie also plays down claims that Steve Bruce will make a deadline day move for Charlie Austin, with him now in talks to join West Brom:
A move to Sheffield Wednesday could be a good one for Murphy, giving him a full season to get his form back on track – something he needs to do now he’s no longer a young prospect at 24.
The Austin story is a bit of an odd one, because it was Sky Sports who initially reported ‘our interest’, however Downie is now insisting that he’s not someone we were every pursuing.
The fact West Brom are in talks with Austin suggests to me that they’re now looking elsewhere with regards to Dwight Gayle – a striker who’s been tipped to leave for game time but someone Bruce seems keen to keep.
As things stand, it feels like Gayle will only be leaving if A) a huge bid comes in and we manage to recruit a replacement or B) we loan him out and use one of our domestic loans to replace him.
