Laughable stuff as deluded pundits suggest we are now the issue…not Steve Bruce

Well, exactly what I thought would happen has indeed happened. Certain media outlets/journalists are blaming Newcastle fans for negativity surrounding Steve Bruce.

It all started with Luke Edwards column (who continues to defend his appointment), then we had Micah Richards and Chris Sutton bigging up Steve Bruce on BBC Radio, with the former even launching the following rant at NUFC fans – “There is a section of them who need to get a grip of themselves and start backing their manager, and not have this negativity.”

Negativity breeds negativity, and replacing Rafa Benitez with Steve Bruce is one hell of a negative step!

Big Sam then questioned why we didn’t get on Rafa’s back despite last seasons start and now we have the most arrogant, ignorant and misinformed “expert” of the lot, Danny Mills weighing in about what horrible, nasty supporters we are. Expectation levels ‘too high’, you know, the usual.

I’ll tell you something, Steve Bruce must be the nicest man in the world. It’s never ever his fault. Or is it? Because despite this, they all throw him under a bus if you analyse their comments.

Chris Sutton basically said on 606 after the Norwich game that we’ll get relegated, but said we were solid team last year, but also said we’re being harsh on Bruce, so what’s the difference? Oh yeah Steve Bruce.

Micah Richards also said Bruce is a class act, and needs time, only 5 days after saying Dean Smith took Villa to the next level when he took over from Bruce.

There is no poor Steve Bruce in this scenario. He’s been given more money than any of his predecessors, and knew exactly what he was getting into. While there is a negative poisonous atmosphere on social media, the situation is different at games. Bruce had his name sung at away pre season games. As far as I’m aware, there wasn’t any anti Bruce chanting at the games.

No one wants Bruce to fail. Sadly most of us think he will, because most of us have witnessed his managerial career with our own eyes. Going from Rafa to him is like going from steak to a Pepperami, from first class on Emirates to Ryan Air.

Yet again the media are just so wide of the mark. It’s lazy journalism.

  1. “Nobody wants Bruce to fail”

    Poppycock.

There’s a very sizeable vocal community who want Bruce to fail so they can say ‘I told you so’ even if they were to deny this I don’t believe them

  2. You hope Steve Bruce will succeed, but think he will fail. There’s only one answer to that. Give the bloke a chance aback him till he IS failing. Not all fans are at faul, but there is the hate Ashley section ..that will certainly effect the moral of the coach and players. This means if they do fail it will be viewed by many that it is there fault. The last 2 games do not count because undue pressure has been put on new players so they do not play their natural game. There is loads of evidence even great players will not look like they are playing well under a new coach or team. Surely patience is needed, maybe half a season. See what happens when time and support is given. I do not like Ashley having the reigns of the club, but to pass the book onto the employees is not right in any Establishment unless the product does prove to fail.
