Yohan Cabaye set to be reunited with ex-NUFC star after 8 months out – Report

Yohan Cabaye looks set to be reunited with former Newcastle teammate and good friend Mathieu Debuchy, with him now ‘on the brink’ of a move to Saint-Etienne.

The 33-year-old has been out of the game for 8 months after being released by Dubai-based side Al-Nasr in January this year, however he’s all set to seal a return to France this week according to Sports.fr.

This free agent move will see Cabaye reunited with Mathieu Debuchy – a fellow ex-Mag and his best man at his wedding!

The report claims he had his medical at the Ligue 1 club on Monday and could make the move official in the ‘next few hours’.

He’s one of several former Newcastle and Sunderland players to join Saint-Etienne. Remy Cabella has only just recently left the club, completing a €12m move to Russia in July, while ex-Mackem duo Wahbi Khazri and Yann M’villa are currently on their books.

Cabaye scored 19 goals in 93 appearances for Newcastle, with his stunning form at St James’ park not only earning him a £20m move to PSG but helping him receive 48 caps for his country.

He spent three years at Crystal Palace between 2015 and 2018 before securing a surprise move to the UAE following his release, however he now looks set to complete a return to France with Saint-Etienne.
