Rolando Aarons completes NUFC exit, joining club above Sunderland in League One

Rolando Aarons has completed a move away from Newcastle United, joining Wycombe Wanderers on loan until January.

With the transfer window closed for Premier League and Championship clubs, a move down the Football League was one of Aarons’ last resorts, with him in desperate need of first-team football after missing out on Steve Bruce’s 25-man squad last month.

Wycombe currently sit 5th in League One – one place above our north-east rivals Sunderland – and, considering Aarons impressed at Championship level with Sheffield Wednesday earlier in the year, this is quite a coup for the club.

An official statement from NUFC.co.uk has said the following after Aarons’ official move to Wycombe:

Rolando Aarons has joined Wycombe Wanderers on loan until January.

The 23-year-old winger was heavily involved for the Magpies in pre-season but Steve Bruce was unable to find room to include him in his 25-man squad for the Premier League campaign so he has now linked up with the Chairboys – currently fifth in League One – for the first half of the season.

The former England under-20 international, who has made 27 appearances and scored four goals for the Magpies since making his debut against Manchester City in August 2014, had loan spells with Slovan Liberec in the Czech Republic and Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship last season, having spent time with Hellas Verona in Serie A in 2017/18.

He could make his Wycombe bow against second-placed Lincoln City on Saturday.
