Ex-NUFC striker exposes Michael Owen after spat with Alan Shearer – This sounds about right..

After sharing a room with him during his time with England, ex-NUFC striker Michael Bridges insists that Michael Owen is a ‘very selfish lad’.

This comes after Owen’s Twitter row with Alan Shearer following his dig at the former Newcastle United no.9 in his new book – and Bridges is backing big Al all the way.

Here’s the 41-year-old – who had a loan spell at St James’ Park in 2004 – has had to say about Owen, insisting that his comments about the club are ‘bang out of order’:

“He has really upset Newcastle fans and I think he has disrespected the club massively,”

“Alan Shearer has had a nibble at him publicly but who is the winner here?

“It’s Michael Owen because his book has got interest and it is going to sell loads of copies because of it.

“There will be a few more players being dragged into this as well.”

“I’m going to have to check how many books he has done in his time but I read his first one and it was c**p.

“This is the one that has dropped all of the bombshells. I know Alan well.

“I play golf with him, we take the mick out of each other, we have shared a dressing room. I roomed with Michael Owen many years ago in the England setup at junior level.

“I put Alan Shearer on a pedestal. He is a great man, he means well by what he does. Michael is a very selfish lad and this typifies that.

“He has hurt a lot of people and he is going to hurt a lot more.

“Nobody is going to take down Alan Shearer in that area. He can walk on water on the River Tyne.

It does not surprise me that Bridges found Owen to be ‘very selfish’ after sharing a room with him on international duty many years ago. As his latest book only emphasises, I don’t think there’s been a more egotistical and self absorbed player to play for Newcastle United.

This all comes after Owen’s scathing attack on Shearer – both in his new book and on social media – but Bridges believes Michael’s comments about the club itself were ‘bang out of order’, with the former NUFC flop claiming that ‘lots of fans and a big stadium’ don’t make you a big club.

Here’s what Bridges had to say about that, with him also believing that Shearer will allow the ‘truth’ to come out about Owen if he doesn’t ‘pipe down’:

This isn’t about him and Alan Shearer, this is about the football club.”

“Michael said it is not a big club.

“It is one club, in one area. In that region, everybody works hard so that they can support that football club which filled Michael Owen’s pockets.

“He has basically alienated himself from everyone at that football club. Newcastle is a big club because of their stature.

“They might not have the trophies but that is a big club, he has upset a lot of people and he is bang out of order.

“I think it is just a case of Shearer saying ‘pipe down, young man, or the truth will come out’.”

He’s tried to belittle Shearer in his latest response to the ex-NUFC number 9 above, but local reporters have explained why these Liverpool remarks were wide of the mark from Owen:

Quit while you’re ahead, Michael. Oh wait..
