Watch Fabian Schar’s superb assist in 4-0 win for Switzerland – 2 goals & 1 assist in 8 days

Just a few days ago we were gushing over Fabian Schar’s stunning goal against Ireland, and just 48 hours later, the Newcastle United star has been at it again.

He’s not scored this time, but the centre-back has pulled off some expert wing play that any attacker would be proud of, jinking inside and whipping in a dangerous cross to set up Admir Mehmedi’s goal in Switzerland’s 4-0 win over Gibraltar last night:

This takes his tally up to 2 goals and 1 assist in the last 8 days, with his equaliser against Watford just over a week ago being followed up with a brilliant team goal in Switzerland’s EURO qualifier vs Ireland and now this assist in their hammering of Gibraltar.

One question that is being posed on social media in light of his outstanding attacking play is – ‘Could Schar be wasted at centre-back?’.

It’s a fair question given his eye for goal, technique and impressive passing range, but the old saying ‘if it ain’t broke don’t fix it’ may apply here.

That said, when Florian Lejeune is fit and Bruce is posed with a huge selection headache at the back, I wouldn’t rule out him being used in a defensive midfield role should we be left short in that area of the pitch at any stage of the season.

One thing’s for sure, he’s been one hell of a bargain at £3m!
