Bruce drools over ‘excellent’ summer signing – “I’m convinced he’s going to do very, very well”

Steve Bruce has praised NUFC new boy Joelinton, saying he’s ‘convinced’ the Brazilian will be a huge success at St James’ Park.

The 58-year-old felt the £40m striker was ‘excellent’ against Watford and believes confidence has ‘boomed into him’ after scoring his first goal for the club at Tottenham last month.

Here’s what Bruce told BBC Radio Newcastle about the 23-year-old talent, backing him to do ‘very, very well’ based on what he’s seen so far:

The former Hoffenheim man struggled badly in our 3-1 defeat at Norwich last month, but he hit back at any early critics in some style against Spurs, bagging the winner and putting in a phenomenal all round display up top.

He also impressed me in the 1-1 draw with Watford the weekend before last. He may not have got himself in many good position in the box – which is one thing both he and we must improve on – but his link up play was impressive.

Let’s hope he can put in another huge Spurs-esque performance at Anfield – something we’ll need him to do if we’re to get any joy against Van Dijk and co on Saturday.
