During a chat with Sky News, Mike Ashley has bizarrely stated that he ‘doesn’t pick the Newcastle team’ and ‘never has’.
A strange comment in an interview which included a few frantic gestures from a defensive Ashley, who looked a little rattled (see clip below) as he continues to defend his beloved Sports Direct and running of NUFC.
This comes after the retail tycoon was quizzed during Sports Directs annual general meeting in London on Wednesday – with some members of the London Magpie Group attending to protest against the Newcastle owner.
As shown below, Ashley pulls out the old ‘pantomime villain’ comment, but randomly declares that he is not the man picking our team each week – not that anyone asked..
“It’s simply impossible and just so we’re clear, I don’t pick the Newcastle team and I never have because that gets thrown at me as well. If you’re me, that’s where you get this, ‘OK guys, panto villain’. Let’s just take that down a notch if that’s OK?”
He claims to have this ‘thrown at him’ on a regular basis, but have you ever seen a Newcastle fans suggest Mike Ashley picks the team? I haven’t.
He seems rattled and, just like he did in his interview in with the Daily Mail a few months ago, he doesn’t seem to be making a great deal of sense.
Mike Ashley is the king of exploitation and it seems he’s taken the Sports Direct shareholders for granted – just as he has done with Newcastle fans over the 12 years.
Another boycott has been planned ahead of next week’s home game against Brighton and the early signs are that it could be our lowest crowd of the season.
In a way it’s sad to see, but it feels like a large section of the fanbase really have had enough of Mike Ashley’s Newcastle United this time around.

How very little you know about Ashley if you think he will just walk away.
As has been said MANY times – Ashley is a buyer, not a seller. This is because he buys something a and will only sell it when there is a profit to be made.
You could get the home game attendance down to 10,000 and he still wouldn’t sell at a loss.
