“We’re in talks..I’m close” – NUFC star confirms he’s set to sign – & he won’t be the only one..

Martin Dubravka has confirmed that he’s ‘close’ to signing a new deal at Newcastle United – and he may not be the only one.

The Slovakian has been tipped to pen a new improved deal after his impressive performances over the past 18 months, and he’s now revealed that he’s not far away from putting pen to paper after holding talks with the club.

Here’s what he’s told the Chronicle following Saturday’s defeat at Anfield:

“I’m happy here.

“Since I came here, people have treated me really well. I can say that I feel at home here.

“I’m glad that people think that I can stay here for the longer-term.

“It’s such a big honour for me.

“Hopefully, we can keep our players in the squad, our leaders, and we can build on this.

“We’re in talks. I’m close. That’s what I can say.”

The goalkeeper was linked with the likes of Manchester United, Juventus and PSG over the summer and it was reported at one stage that he was considering his options after Rafa Benitez’s exit, but he sounds more than happy to extend his stay at St James’ Park here.

Here’s what he also had to say when asked about other first-team players being in talks over new deals, with the likes of Isaac Hayden, Matt Ritchie and Sean Longstaff also tipped to gain renewals:

 “It’s important.

“He wants to create a good group of people, a team. You can’t change five or six players, and expect that it will work.

“If I can stay longer here, I will be happy.”

Great to hear from our no.1.

Hopefully he’s not the only player who puts pen to paper over the coming weeks and months – especially when many expected our star players to leave following Rafa’s exit.
