NUFC ‘in talks’ to sign 4 players to new deals at the club – Report

According to the Chronicle, Fabian Schar, Isaac Hayden, Matt Ritchie and Martin Dubravka are all in talks to sign new deals at St James’ Park.

Dubravka confirmed over the weekend that he was ‘close’ to agreeing an extension, but it’s been confirmed today that Lee Charnley is also in discussions with THREE other key first-team players whose contracts are due to expire in 2021.

Here’s a snippet from the Chronicle’s latest piece, revealing the four deals being worked on behind the scenes:

“Behind the scenes, the next few weeks and months will also be crucial.

“Martin Dubravka is close to signing a new deal and managing director Lee Charnley has been in discussions with the representatives of the nucleus of the squad about extending their contracts, with Matt Ritchie, Isaac Hayden and Fabian Schar’s contracts all up in 2021.”

Considering these are four players who were all tipped to leave for various reasons at one stage over the summer, it would be a real boost to see them sign new deals.

Schar and Dubravka were linked with big moves away following Benitez’s exit, Hayden looked set to leave due to ongoing personal issues off the field and many feared Matt Ritchie would be deemed ‘too old’ for a new deal at 30, but it seems the club have at least pulled their finger out on the contract front.

Good news, but if only they had this level of urgency with Rafa Benitez..
