Jacob Murphy receives warning as Sheffield Wednesday loan move quickly goes sour..

The Sheffield Star’s Dom Howson has told Newcastle loanee Jacob Murphy to ‘raise his game’ after an ‘underwhelming’ start to life at Sheffield Wednesday.

The 24-year-old – who cost us £10m from Norwich just over 2 years ago – enjoyed a dream debut for the Owls, scoring just in their opening day win over Barnsley at Hillsborough, however it’s gone downhill since then.

He’s recently lost his place in the side, but was handed a start in Gary Monk’s first game in charge at Huddersfield. Sadly, he failed to impress, being hauled off early into the second half, and he’s since been warned to up his game.

As Howson states in his piece below, he’s been accused of ‘inconsistency’ and only showing ‘fleeting glimpses of talent’, with him ‘quiet and easily shackled’ by a leaky Huddersfield defence last weekend:

It seems the Sheffield Star writer isn’t the only one who hasn’t been impressed either, with several Owls fans commenting on his poor form in the post above.

He struggled to make an impact at West Brom earlier in the year and his latest Championship loan move is following the same trend – a worrying sign considering we signed him to make an impact in the Premier League.

This is a crucial loan move for him, with us needing to see more than just potential sooner rather than later now he’s 24, however the early signs aren’t convincing.

Hopefully he finds some form and comes good, but I can’t see him making it at Newcastle United unless something changes soon.
