Bruce shares big injury update – 4 ruled out, but 3 key players set to return vs Brighton

Steve Bruce has shared a big injury update today’s pre-match press conference, and there’s plenty good news on the fitness front.

Andy Carroll and Allan Saint-Maximin are set to make tomorrow’s squad, providing they come through training with no issues today, while Fabian Schar has been declared fit to play against Brighton.

Sean Longstaff is expected to return next week and has been ruled out, while this one will also come too soon for Matt Ritchie, Dwight Gayle and Florian Lejeune.

Here’s what Steve Bruce has had to say on the injury front just a few moments ago:

“As long as Andy comes through (training) today okay – touch wood he will – he will be involved, which is good news at the top end of the pitch. We’ve been dealt a few blows with some big injuries – hopefully, this is a sign of better things to come.”

“Fabian Schär is OK. It was cramp, so that’s good news for us, as well. Allan Saint-Maximin – he looks as if he’s going to make it, too”

“As long as he (Saint-Maximin) comes through today then he’s in contention as well. (Sean) Longstaff’s not going to make it unfortunately – maybe the end of next week.”

“Certainly the return of Andy, and Saint-Maximin will give us something that can only benefit us.”

“Hopefully they can stay fit for a long period.”

It’s a huge boost for everyone to hear that Carroll and Saint-Maximin are in contention to return, although we’ll have to hope the latter hasn’t been rushed back after reoccurring issues with his hamstring since he arrived.

Losing Longstaff once again is a shame, but we’ll have to hope Jonjo Shelvey can come in and do the business. After all, a home game against a potential relegation rival *should* be made for him if we are looking to get on the front foot and score goals.

DeAndre Yedlin is also in contention to return to the squad according to the Northern Echo.

He trained with the first-team squad yesterday, but it remains to be seen if Steve Bruce will include him tomorrow given he has two fully fit right-back options in Javier Manquillo and Emil Krafth.

  1. AC “Giz a game Mr. Bruce, I am a bit short of cash at the moment”. OK son, I’ll put you on for the last 10 minutes so you can earn a bit and it will keep the sheep happy that their hero has returned. However don’t do too much and only heed the ball.
