Sky Sports pundit & Mark Lawrenson predict Newcastle vs Brighton

Charlie Nicholas and Mark Lawrenson have revealed their weekly Premier League predictions, and they’re both backing us to take all three points for the first time at St James’ Park this season.

Michael Owen predicted this one to be a ‘tight, tense, close affair’ with few goals earlier in the week, but the Sky Sports and BBC duo are both expecting us to win by two clear goals tomorrow.

Charlie Nicholas’ prediction for Sky Sports:

It does not have a glamour tag on it, but I am really interested to see how they will both go about it. Steve Bruce has done a decent job so far and he is trying to ease the tension between him and the fans, who will expect their side to win this match.

“It is a golden opportunity for these players to help Bruce slide into a decent position. Joelinton will find his feet, while Miguel Almiron is playing on the edge of games and has been tame at times – it is time for him to fire.

Brighton started the season superbly, but then what has Graham Potter’s style been thereafter? Their back three is always consistent in what they give you, but Newcastle will find ways to exploit it.

Prediction: Newcastle 3-1 Brighton

Interesting that Nicholas expects us to ‘find way to exploit’ Brighton’s towering back three of Duffy, Dunk and Burn, also backing Joelinton to come good.

We’ll do well to score 3 goals against them considering we’ve scored 4 goals in our first 5 games so far this season, but let’s hope he’s right!

Then to BBC’s Mark Lawrenson, who’s said the following during his prediction:

“Steve Bruce is still waiting for his first win at St James’ Park as Newcastle manager and this will obviously be a very good time to get it.

“Both of these teams are in the bottom five, and it is important to beat the teams around you, especially at home.

Lawro’s prediction: Newcastle 2-0 Brighton.

He’s hardly given much away here, but again he’s backing us to win by two goals, predicting a 2-0 win tomorrow.

With tough games coming up and no home win so far this season, this is our biggest chance yet to take all three points at St James’ Park and arguably Steve Bruce’s biggest game in charge yet.

Here’s hoping they can deliver. HTL!
