Forgotten man spotted back in training & defender returns – but key man missing again

The club have released footage from the players latest training session on Wednesday morning, and it’s mixed news on the fitness front.

Dwight Gayle is back, taking part in a ‘light training’ for the first time in months, while Jetro Willems was also involved in the full session – suggesting he should be fit to return against Man Utd this weekend.

That said, there’s no sign of Matt Ritchie, with him expected to miss Sunday’s game after failing to recover from ankle ligament damage.

It’s also great to see French duo Allan Saint-Maximin and Florian Lejeune in action once again. The former could be in line for his first home start of the season IF his hamstring holds up in training this week, however this weekend will almost certainly come too soon for Florian Lejeune, who hasn’t long returned to light training after several months out with an ACL injury.

Elsewhere, Ki looks likely to partner Sean Longstaff in midfield with Shelvey deemed a doubt (despite being on some training pictures today) and Hayden suspended for our upcoming three games.

At the back, Yedlin and Manquillo will be pushing for a start after Krafth’s struggles last Sunday, while Federico Fernandez could also be given a chance should Bruce wield the axe following that 5-0 hammering at Leicester.
