Allan Saint-Maximin has confirmed that his “physical condition is getting better’ after several weeks out of Steve Bruce’s starting line up with a niggling hamstring injury.
Elsewhere, the Shields Gazette claim Steve Bruce is now ‘sweating on the fitness’ of Jetro Willems now Matt Ritchie looks set to miss Sunday’s game with Man Utd, however it’s positive to see the club confirm he was back in training this morning.
A ‘knee injury’ kept Willems out of that 5-0 hammering at Leicester last Sunday, but the Gazette’s Miles Starforth claims he is in with a chance of returning this weekend – and we’ll need him given our lack of options at left wing-back.
Back to Saint-Maximin, the French winger said his “‘physical condition is getting better” during a recent post on social media after fans responded to his stunning solo goal in training earlier this week.
The 22-year-old didn’t feature in last weekend’s hammering at Leicester, with Ki, Carroll and Yedlin coming on from the bench instead, however he could well start on Sunday with Bruce tipped to make a few big changes.
With us short on options at left wing-back and lacking flare in attack, let’s hope both can make an impact on Sunday!
