Is this why Elias Sorensen is struggling out on loan? Telling comments from Carlisle reporter..

Jon Colman – a Cumbrian reporter for the News & Star – claims Carlisle boss Steven Pressley has told Elias Sorensen to ‘work on his fitness’, suggesting this may be one of the key reasons he’s struggled for starts in League Two.

The Danish striker was a sensation at U-23 level last season, scoring over 20 goals for club and country, however his latest loan spell with Carlisle United has not gone to plan so far.

He’s started just ONCE in their opening 11 games in League Two so far this season – and that was against Scunthorpe back in August in a game that saw him hauled off at half-time.

Sorensen does look a very capable finisher and Colman does claim that he was one of the manager’s top summer target for that very reason, but these new claims about his fitness levels perhaps help explain why he’s found regular game time hard to come by.

The only way for him to improve is match fitness is to play regularly, but perhaps this latest loan move is another reality check for the 20-year-old as he makes the transition from U-23 to senior level.
