Richard Keys claims Rafa Benitez could quit China & take Premier League job – “He’d walk back”

Oh look who’s back. Just when we’re having an all too rare good week as a set of fans, up pops Richard Keys.

I think it’s fair to say that the disgraced former Sky Sports anchor man is a little bit obsessed with Rafa Benitez. He just can’t seem to stop talking about him, this time giving his irrelevant opinion on the prospects of Rafa returning to the Premier League.

On his personal blog, Keys was asked about the current managerial position at Everton, where despite spending a lot of money, Mauro Silva continues to struggle.

The BEIN Sports presenter said:

“Who next? Arsene Wenger is available of course. So is David Moyes and my call left field last week was Rafa.

Don’t believe he wouldn’t take it. He tried twice to get it when he was at Newcastle – before Sam and Silva. He’d walk back from China for it. Rafa doesn’t do ‘emotion’ – as he proved when he went to Chelsea. He does what he believes is right for himself. He always has. Ask Mike Ashley.

If Newcastle fans are wondering why I’m suggesting Rafa – let me explain. Never have I said he isn’t a good coach. We all know he is. What irritated me about his time at Newcastle was the constant moaning. He knew the deal. So get on with it. Despite being told time and again that he’d walk into one of the world’s top jobs on leaving Newcastle I said he wouldn’t. He didn’t. He had the best job he was ever going to get in England – unless Everton are brave enough. Let’s see…”

My favourite line in this whole thing is “ask Mike Ashley”……..it needs no explanation.

There’s this whole narrative it seems in the media among Bruce’s mates that we need to move on from Rafa. We do, and we’d find it so much easier if the people telling us that would as well.

  1. sick of hearing about Saint Rafa the fact is he dumped us regardless of what anyone says he had an offer bigger than a lottery roll over and he left us and money was always going to talk.

He could have been honest with the fans but he strung us along until the last minute as well.
