Dream international debut for ex-NUFC talent as he bags goal & assist in 6-0 win – Watch here

Former Newcastle United centre-back Stuart Findlay enjoyed a dream international debut for Scotland last night, bagging a goal and an assist in their 6-0 win over San Marino last night.

The defender made just one start at senior level on Tyneside, playing in our 3-1 FA Cup win over Birmingham in January 2017, but he’s been impressing at Kilmarnock and has earned a call-up to the Scottish national side as a result.

He played alongside Liverpool star Andy Robertson in defence and not only set up John McGinn’s hat-trick, but got on the scoresheet himself late on, heading home to make it 4-0:

It may have been against the whipping boys of Scotland’s EURO 2020 qualifying group, however it was a special moment for the 24-year-old – who clearly enjoyed what he’s since described as a ‘dream’ moment for him at Hampden Park.

I don’t think Findlay fits into the category of players we let go of too soon, however there’s been a few who’ve gone on to do well for themselves at senior level since slipping through the net at St James’ Park.

Ivan Toney scored his 10th goal of the season on Saturday – making him the top scorer in any of England’s top 4 leagues so far this season – while Kevin Mbabu recently secured a £8m move to Wolfsburg after impressing for club and country in Switzerland.
