NUFC set for ‘major rebuild’ with 8 senior players expected to leave next summer – Report

Newcastle are expected to undergo a ‘major rebuild’ over the next year according to The Chronicle, with 8 senior players expected to leave as things stand.

As revealed below, Ki Sung-yeung, Federico Fernandez, Javier Manquillo, Rob Elliot and Jack Colback are all out of contract next summer and have ‘no guarantees’ in place regarding extensions.

In addition, the report states that Rolando Aarons, Henri Saivet and Achraf Lazaar are all up for sale, with Italian side Cosenza being told they can sign the latter permanently if he impresses on loan.

Here’s a snippet from Lee Ryder’s piece on potential outgoings over the coming months:

The wage bill could be cleared significantly with a host of senior contracts about to expire.

Indeed, Ki, Federico Fernandez, Rob Elliot and Javier Manquillo and Jack Colback will all see their deals run out and with no guarantees on contract extensions, the wage bill and squad size could be trimmed significantly.

Newcastle will again be open to offers for Henri Saivet, Achraf Lazaar and Rolando Aarons who are tied down until 2021.

Italian Serie B club Cosenza have been told that Lazaar can join them permanently at the end of his loan deal.

While there’s a LOT of deadwood here and players who clearly have no long term future at the club, I’d be inclined to keep Federico Fernandez.

The Argentine defender has very rarely let us down when he’s played over the past year and is one of few experienced players at the club, however he too must be considering his options given his lack of game time this season.

The likes of Manquillo and Ki can do a job when called upon, but with both well down the pecking order at right-back and centre-midfield respectively, it wouldn’t surprise me if we moved them on in January in order to recoup a fee before they leave next summer for free.

Is there anyone here you’d like to see be offered a new deal?

  1. Sling Kraft, keep Manquillo can’t be on that much and does a decent job, and defo keep Fedi Fernandez, People are sniffing around Schar unless they get him signed up long term big money soon ie well before end of next month….deserves top dollar and a hefty clause to prize him away…..as with Sean and Matty, spend what’s going out soon, Now to keep a spine thats shaping nicely

  2. We could get rid of five of the players you mentioned and we wouldn’t even need to replace them.

Not so much a “huge rebuild” as a demolition.

But more importantly we could get 4 million a year off the wage bill.
