✍? Official statement confirms NUFC star has signed new 6-year-deal – Great news

Newcastle United have released a statement confirming Martin Dubravka has signed a new six-year contract – a deal which could keep him at the club until 2025.

This is great news and the announcement we’d been hoping for after the Slovakian confirmed he was ‘close’ to signing over the dotted line over a month ago now.

Here’s the official statement released by the club in the last few moments, followed by reaction from both Dubravka and Bruce:

Newcastle United are delighted to announce that goalkeeper Martin Dúbravka has signed a new six-year contract at St. James’ Park.

The Slovakia international joined the Magpies, initially on loan, from Sparta Prague in January 2017, making his debut in a 1-0 win against Manchester United the following month.

He has been between the posts for Newcastle in every Premier League game since, keeping 17 clean sheets in 59 top flight appearances and winning the North East Football Writers’ Association Player of the Year award for 2018.

Dubravka had this to say to NUFC TV after putting pen to paper:

“It is an amazing feeling,”

“I have to say that it feels like time has flown. It’s been almost two years and I’ve found great people here who I can call friends.

I’ve enjoyed my time here and I’m very glad that I can stay here for another six years.”

Here’s what Steve Bruce then added in reaction to the news:

“I’m really, really pleased that Martin has committed his future to the club. “He’s been absolutely fantastic since the day he arrived and he’s a hugely important figure for us both on the pitch and in the dressing room.

“He’s a massive part of our plans for the future, so it’s great that he’s agreed to stay with us for the next few years, and a fitting reward for his performances.”

A well deserved reward for one of our most consistent performers over the past few years and an important move from the club – especially when the likes of Juventus and PSG had shown interest.

Hopefully this is one of many contract renewals at the club, with several other key players said to be in talks.
