Newcastle enter £5m race for ex-Benfica talent – Wolves & Watford also keen – Report

According to the Birmingham Mail, Wolves are facing competition from Newcastle for the signature of £5m-rated full-back Aurélio Buta.

The 22-year-old defender currently plays for Belgian side Royal Antwerp and has been tipped to make a January move to England today, with ourselves, Wolves and Watford all said to be tracking him.

Buta – a former Benfica youngster – been capped by Portugal at every level from U-16’s to U-20’s and has weighed in with 1 goal and 3 assists in 12 games in the Jupiler Pro League this season.

The Angolan-born defender has also caught the eye during their Europa League campaign, with the Birmingham Mail claiming that we are one of three Premier League clubs keeping an eye on the pacey wing-back.

He fits the profile in terms of age, potential and the fact he’s likely to be available at a reasonable price, however it’s hard to see us signing yet another right-back.

With Yedlin back, Krafth signed over the summer and Manquillo a half decent option as third-choice right-backs go, do we really need another in the new year?
