Lee Ryder makes ‘£20m’ transfer claim when asked about NUFC’s January plans

According to Lee Ryder, Newcastle United will make a ‘£20m signing‘ in January if they need to – suggesting there is money to spend.

This comes from The Chronicle’s latest Q&A session, with Ryder stating that there is a ‘funds in the pot to spend’ ahead of the upcoming winter window.

No set budget is mentioned, but it seems the club will be willing to sanction another Miguel Almiron-esque deal should the right player come up.

“There will certainly be funds in the pot to spend.

“Newcastle have the power to make a £20million signing if they need to.”

There’s been a few players linked on more on one occasion over the past few weeks, with Hull’s Jarrod Bowen regularly mentioned and Genk striker Mbwana Samatta linked today, but Steve Bruce had tended to keep his cards close to his chest when asked about his January plans in recent pressers.

Personally, I feel we should be looking at quality and not quantity if we are to splash a bit of cash in the new year. We’re well stocked in most areas, but are one injury away from issues in central-midfield, out wide and up top.

With this latest transfer claim in mind, suggesting we’ll be prepared to make a £20m signing if need be, who would you like to see us look at in January?

  1. Prem quality goal scorers are hard to come by for £20 mill. Another winger maybe …. maxi, Almiron then we are down to Atsu nd poss Richie, centre mid ok for where we are – Hayden, shelvey, Longstaffs for 2 positions, cbs ok, left back ok – dutch lad, dummet, Richie maybe a rb cos craft ain’t got no craft yedders ok going forward no good other way and manquillo is a 6 out of 10 every game tryer but not quite the quality so unless we get Bowen can’t see us spending owt as we aren’t in danger of relegation imo.
