After being in the stands to watch our under 23’s over the past few weeks, an unnamed Football scout has revealed a few Newcastle United youngsters who’ve caught his eye.
While striker Luke Charman and winger Thomas Allan received praise, it was young midfielder Jack Young was clearly stood out, with the scout hugely impressed by the 19-year-old’s ‘incredible work rate, vision awareness’.
Read his comments below after travelling to watch our U-23’s recent games at Aston Villa and Port Vale:
“Having seen the under 23’s the last few games, clearly some have to develop. That’s to be expected.
“The pick of the crop in my opinion at the moment is Jack Young. Incredible work rate, vision and awareness.
“Luke Charman is doing well and his aerial presence hasn’t gone unnoticed. In particular his first goal was superbly taken against Aston Villa recently.
“Thomas Allan caught the eye on Tuesday with his pace in the 2-1 defeat at Port Vale and perhaps should of scored but for a superb save when he found himself through one on one with Vale keeper John Scout.”
Young was a second-year scholar until he was handed his first professional contract with the club over the summer, and he’s been one of our standout players at U-23 level since.

The midfielder turned 19 just a few weeks ago, but is clearly showing no signs of struggle after stepping up to U-23 level this year.
