NUFC fans rank our “best & worst players this season” – From 8/10 to 4/10 – See results here

This week The Chronicle have asked Newcastle fans to rate our entire first-team squad out of 10 based on their performances so far this season.

The results are interested – and surprising in parts – with Allan Saint-Maximin coming out on top (average rating of 8.2) and Ki Sung-yueng being the lowest rated player with an average mark of just 4.2.

Here’s the results in full:

  • 8.2 – Allan Saint-Maximin
  • 8.1 – Fabian Schar
  • 7.9 – Ciaran Clark
  • 7.6 – Jetro Willems
  • 7.6 – Federico Fernandez
  • 7.1 – Martin Dubravka
  • 7.0 – Matt Longstaff
  • 7.0 – DeAndre Yedlin
  • 6.8 – Jamaal Lascelles
  • 6.7 – Isaac Hayden
  • 6.7 – Miguel Almiron
  • 6.6 – Sean Longstaff
  • 6.6 – Paul Dummett
  • 6.4 – Jonjo Shelvey
  • 6.3 – Joelinton
  • 6.1 – Matt Ritchie
  • 6.0 – Christian Atsu
  • 5.5 – Andy Carroll
  • 5.1 – Javier Manquillo
  • 4.5 – Karl Darlow
  • 4.5 – Emil Krafth
  • 4.4 – Yoshinori Muto
  • 4.2 – Ki Sung-yueng

So, according to this, our top performing 11 this season has been:

Dubravka – Yedlin, Schar, Fernandez, Clark, Willems – Hayden, M.Longstaff – Almiron, Joelinton, Saint-Maximin.

There’s a few ratings that stand out. The fact Saint-Maximin leads the way shows just how much he’s impressed Newcastle fans since his return from a niggling hamstring injury, but ratings of 7.9 and 7.6 for Ciaran Clark, Federico Fernandez and Jetro Willems respectively pays tribute to just how well they’ve done when given a chance in Steve Bruce’s side.

For all the early season criticism, it’s interesting to see that fans have rated Miguel Almiron (6.7) above the likes of Sean Longstaff (6.6) and Paul Dummett (6.6).

A mark of 6.3 for Joelinton is hardly what you’d have hoped for from our new club record signing, yet fans clearly feel he’s done much more than Andy Carrol when he’s played, with the 30-year-old’s rating of 5.5 reflecting how limited he’s been when he’s come on for late cameos this season.
