Rafa Benitez “interested” as club prepare to offer him Premier League return – Report

Former Toon boss Rafa Benitez has been linked with a sensational return to the Premier League with struggling West Ham.

The Mirror are reporting that Benitez could replace under-fire Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini IF the Chilean fails to turn around their awful run of form over the coming weeks.

The Hammers lost 3-0 at Burnley before the international break and have failed to win in any of their last SIX games.

Benitez almost put pen to paper at the London Stadium in 2015, only to receive a last-minute offer from Real Madrid, and was linked with West Ham numerous times whilst in charge with Newcastle. The Mirror’s John Richardson claims he would be interested in speaking to the club this time around however, despite his £12m deal at Dalian Yifang.

This would make sense for Rafa Benitez. At 59 he still maintains that ambitious mentality to compete as a top-level manager, not forgetting the fact he’d be far closer to his family in the Wirral.

West Ham would no doubt give Benitez the backing that he did not receive whilst at Newcastle and a talented squad. The thought of doing something like Brendan Rodgers has done at Leicester and attacking that top 4 could be an attractive proposition for a manager of his calibre.

If Benitez were to go to London and manage West Ham, this would surely be a bitter blow for us Newcastle fans. It would almost be like watching your ex cop off with her new fella whilst you’re sat at home with no money and there is nothing you can do about it!
