TalkSPORT took a call from a pretty irate Newcastle fan last night moments after our abysmal performance at Aston Villa.
The fan, who made the long trip to the Midlands with his son, slammed Bruce’s negative approach to the game, also singling out misfiring duo Joelinton and Almiron for criticism.

It’s ard to argue with anything he says to be honest.
Of course we will lose games, but it was the manner in which we lost, as if the mentality from the team was all wrong from the first whistle.
Why didn’t we tear into them like we did to West Ham, who despite their current poor form are a better side on paper than Villa. That was my single biggest frustration with watching such a lifeless, frankly pathetic display. We were the form team going into the game, having taken 7 points from our previous 4 games, while Villa took 0 points from the same amount of games.
We are the established Premier League team, our opponents the newly promoted team. We have one of the most experienced managers in the history of the Premier League, so why was he completely out thought one of the most inexperienced. Why did we give their two best players in Grealish and McGinn all the time in the world on the ball?
Basically we didn’t we try and do all the great things that saw us beat West Ham and Bournemouth? Honestly Villa will be laughing at how easy that was.
Of course as with any Newcastle defeat, the defeatism on social media is abundant. It’s the end of the world and all our players are woeful. It swings both ways as when we win the world is a wonderful place and we all have a spring in our step. We’re all guilty of it. Perspective and objectivity are required, and is just one game, but my word the manner of it was just pathetic.
I’ve been a defender of both Joelinton and Almiron. While the case could be made about the lack of service last night for Joelinton, he still looks nothing like a £40m player. Almiron however, was simply atrocious.
After scoring a good goal for Paraguay during the international break, I thought he’d bounce into this game but he played like he had the strength and coordination of a newly born calf, who was drunk. Maybe it is time for him to be taken out of the firing line.
Bruce needs a reaction in the next week. Fair enough Manchester City are simply world class and it’s a tall order but another performance as abject as last night at Bramall Lane will be unacceptable.
One of my students today is a Villa fan, and believe me, he’s one underhand remark away from spending his entire next weekend doing homework!
