Journalist reveals the loan offer NUFC look set to receive in January

Nottingham Forest have ‘firmly’ set their sights on Dwight Gayle, with an ‘exclusive’ from Football League World’s Sam Rourke claiming a January loan bid is imminent.

Gayle has been out of favour at Newcastle for a couple of seasons but has a red hot reputation for scoring goals at Championship level, so it’s easy to see why promotion-chasing Nottingham Forest would want him.

Lewis Grabban is currently tasked with scoring the goals their goal, but Rourke claims the club’s hierarchy are keen to bring in the former Newcastle no.9 in January to boost their hopes of a long-awaited return to the top flight.

Gayle scored 23 goals in 34 games for the Magpies during the 16/17 Championship season and added a further 24 in 41 during his spell on loan at West Brom last season.

Given his lack of game time this season – he’s played just 22 minutes – any move that sees Gayle head for the St James’ Park exit would only be good for the club if a replacement was due to come in.

We are currently in no position to be offloading strikers as it is, with Joelinton’s goal away to Tottenham being the only sole strike from any of our forward line so far this season!

Gayle is arguably the most natural finisher on our books, but he just doesn’t seem to fit our system, so you would like to think he would only be allowed to leave if the club had his replacement lined up.
