According to the Chronicle, Andy Carroll and DeAndre Yedlin look set to return to Steve Bruce’s squad ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Sheffield United.
This comes after some positive pictures emerged from the club’s training ground this week, showing the recently injured duo back out with the group.
The duo were forced to sit out of Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Manchester City, but it looks like Bruce will have both available for the busy festive period.
That said, it remains to be seen if either start. Manquillo came in for Yedlin over the weekend and did a brilliant job against Raheem Sterling, while there’s still doubts over Andy Carroll’s ability to start a game – despite the fact some believe Joelinton needs to be taken out of the firing line.
The Brazilian had some difficult moments against Man City, with many believing he was our weakest link once again, however I would persevere – especially when Carroll doesn’t seem ready to start and Gayle doesn’t fit the system.
It’ll be a real physical battle against Sheffield United’s three centre-backs and a test in wide areas given how their full-backs bomb forward, so let’s hope both Joelinton and Manquillo can rise to the challenge should they get the nod again.
