Rare honesty from NUFC star as he tells fans he wasn’t good enough vs Southampton

Jetro Willems didn’t have his finest game in the black and white shirt yesterday, but showed admirable honesty moments after the full-time whistle in a message to fans on social media.

After the game, the Dutch left-back tweeted:

Fair play to Willems for recognising his sub-par performance. You have to admire his honesty – especially when it ended up being a match we went on to win!

It’s refreshing to see a player hold his hand up after a poor performance and, let’s face it, this has probably been his first sub-par display in months!

Willems has arguably been our most consistent player in recent months and, in my opinion, one of our players of the season so far.

Everyone is human and is allowed an off day once in a while and he had on yesterday, with him looking fatigued, a little off the pace in all areas and surprisingly sloppy on the ball.

Thankfully it didn’t cost us, with us going on to take all three points against the Saints!

Hopefully he’s back to his best at Burnley on Saturday!

  1. He was pretty bad against Sheffield too. He can be dangerous while attacking, but he’s defence was non existing in that game.
