Report reveals 2 players Bruce looks set to start vs Burnley as injuries mount up – Report

According to the Chronicle, Fabian Schar and Christian Atsu are expected to earn recalls to Steve Bruce’s side for Saturday’s trip to Turf Moor.

This comes after Newcastle duo Ciaran Clark and Allan Saint-Maximin limped off during yesterday’s 2-1 win over Southampton.

The extent of their injuries is yet to be confirmed, but both look almost certain to miss this weekend’s trip to Turf Moor, with ASM’s hamstring particularly concerning given he was spotted leaving St James’ Park on crutches.

Schar came on for Clark at half-time and looks set to continue in his expected absence at Burnley, while Christian Atsu appears to be the man Bruce will turn to following Saint-Maximin’s latest setback.

This comes after both Jamaal Lascelles and Matt Ritchie were ruled out until the new year, giving Steve Bruce a few unwanted injury headaches just as we enter the a hectic Christmas schedule.

While our squad can cope with an injury to a centre-back, it could be devastating if we lost ASM for the entire festive period – and that looks highly likely given he told local reporters it was a “bad one” as he limped out of the stadium on Sunday.

Astu has quietly played his part when he’s featured this season, bagging 3 assists (more than any Newcastle player so far), however he has huge boots to fill if he is to replace the Frenchman over the coming weeks.

Here’s hoping he can step up and deliver in ASM’s absence!
