Bruce names player he’s trying to sign in new transfer update – but deal not close just yet..

Steve Bruce has confirmed his interest in Ademola Lookman – but insists any deal from RB Leipzig is still “a bit far off at the minute”.

This comes from the NUFC boss’ press conference in the last few moments, where he describes the former Everton winger as a “good player” who he “likes”.

That said, it sounds like talk that he’s set to arrive on loan is premature, with him suggesting there’s plenty of work to be done before he’ll sign at St James’ Park.

Here’s what he’s had to say when asked about a move for the 22-year-old talent this morning:

“I’ve been linked with 38 players. He’s one of them.

“He’s a good player. I like him – who wouldn’t? – but it’s a bit far off at the minute.”

“I’ve said from day one January is always difficult.

“We have to have people that will improve us.

“If there’s a deal to be done, we’ll try to do it.”

“We’ve one or two plates spinning.

“My aim is to improve the team, and if there’s nobody better out there, I’m not going to bring in for the sake of it.

“It’d be easy to do that but, if they’re not better than what we’ve got, what the hell is the point?”

It’s fair to say this rubbishes last night’s rumours stating he was set to arrive this weekend for a medical – but Bruce is clearly a fan.

With these comments in mind, it wouldn’t surprise me if the club are still discussing both a loan fee and the potential fee we’d have to pay should the deal include an ‘option’ or ‘obligation’ to sign him permanently this summer.
