Alan Shearer names 2 Newcastle United players in Premier League team of the week

Alan Shearer has selected Newcastle United duo Martin Dubravka and Miggy Almiron in his Premier League team of the week following our 1-1 draw against Wolves at Molineux.

The decision to select 2 of our players may come as a surprise considering that we didn’t actually come away from the game with all 3 points, but nobody can deny the impact each player had on the team, with both putting in outstanding displays.

This is the second time Shearer has picked both Dubravka and Almiron in the same week, with the first coming after our 1-0 win against Crystal Palace.

Here’s his team of the week following the latest round of Premier League action over the weekend:

It is good to see our record goalscorer give credit to Almiron, especially considering the criticism he gave the forward – and rightly so – back in August.

Dubravka was superb once again at Wolves and has the most registered saves made in the Premier League so far this season with 90 – which is 8 more than 2nd place Bernd Leno of Arsenal.

The Slovakian International has been like a wall between the sticks for us this season and has at times made our defence look better than it actually is, with these save stats proving that fact to be correct.

With Almiron, he is the definition of a team player. One moment that sticks out from the game at Molineux (other than his goal) is when he tracked back 30 yards to tackle a surging Adama Traore, winning the ball for us deep in our own half:

It is brilliant to see that his hard work is paying off at the other end of the pitch now he is finally starting to find the net, and it is refreshing to see a player who genuinely looks as though he enjoys wearing those black-and-white stripes – and long may it continue.
