According to the Daily Mail, Newcastle have made an enquiry about signing OGC Nice star Wylan Cyprien.
The piece claims the French midfielder is valued at ‘around £20m’ by the Ligue 1 club and has also attracted interest from Tottenham, but it’s reported we’ve now made a move and asked about his availability.
With Bruce said to be on the lookout for a ‘box-to-box’ midfielder this month, Cyprien appears to fit the bill, while his age (24) suggests he’s a player that fits into the club’s transfer policy.
One Newcastle player the Frenchman will know very well is Allan Saint-Maximin, having played alongside the winger for several seasons at the Allianz Riviera before his £16m move to Tyneside last summer.
Cyprien has 22 goals and 12 assists in 105 games for Nice and has been in impressive form so far this season, bagging 7 goals and 5 assists in all competitions.
One to watch in Bruce’s pursuit of a new central midfielder? He fits the bill, although I fear we may be relying on loans this month – not £15-£20m signings.
Here’s him in action:
