Hilarious footage of Matt Ritchie emerges after 4-1 win over Rochdale – “He’s mad!”

Matt Ritchie made his first start for the club since August in last night’s 4-1 win over Rochdale, and the club have since shared some amusing footage of him ‘celebrating’ one of our goals.

As the clip shows below, the passionate wing-back gave Matty Longstaff a few ‘slaps’ on the head after setting up his goal to make it 2-0 at St James’ Park – and his comments after the game are absolute gold:

Here’s what Ritchie said after the game, revealing what Matty Longstaff told him after the game:

“Matty (Longstaff) said to me tonight actually, ‘Matt, man, why are you hitting my head? It hurts!’.

“But I love it. I love the feeling of winning, of succeeding.”

Brilliant – but those last few comments from Ritchie sum up exactly why he’s a priceless part of this Newcastle United side. He’s mad, but he’s a winner and incredibly competitive.

His competitive and fiery mentality has been missed in recent months, while his leadership and work rate on the pitch also seems to rub off on others.

That said, it’s not just his energy, commitment and experience that we’ve missed, with him bagging two assists last night from dangerous crosses into the box.

It’s great to have him back – even if Matty Longstaff has a sore head today as a result!
