NUFC make move for Valentino Lazaro – & are now in ‘pole position’ to sign him – Report

According to reports emerging from Italy late last night, Newcastle are now in ‘pole position’ to sign Inter Milan’s Valentino Lazaro.

This comes popular Serie A Journalist Alfredo Pedulla, who writes in his latest ‘exclusive’ that the wing-back could be on his way to St James’ Park following Ashley Young’s arrival at the San Siro.

West Ham were believed to have made a move for the versatile 23-year-old – who can play as a right wing-back or right winger – but Pedulla claims Newcastle are now in talks and favourites to sign him on loan:

Bein Sports’ Tancredi Palmeri has also shared the story, claiming Sport Italia report that we are ‘in talks’ with Inter Milan over a deal to sign the Austrian international.

Lazaro completed a £20m move to the San Siro just last summer after impressing with Bundesliga side Hertha Berlina, but he’s made just six Serie A appearances since, often finding himself on the bench for Antonio Conte’s side.

With Ashley Young all set to sign for Inter this week, it looks like the door has been opened for Lazaro to make a swift exit, with the Italian’s expected to loan him out this month.

He fits the bill in terms of age, potential and versatility – being able to play anywhere down the right-hand side – but the signing of another right wing-back may seem a little bizarre considering we already have Yedlin, Krafth and Manquillo on our books.

That said, he’s an exciting young wing-back who was shining in Germany before his move to Inter, bagging 6 goals and 15 assists in his last two seasons with Hertha Berlin.
